How to Use: Simply download and print this card (I recommend printing on cardstock or laminating for durability) and have your child keep it on their nightstand, prayer space, or tucked in their Bible. My son followed this method to begin praying on his own for about 10-20 minutes (or more…the timing was really up to him) each day. We started when he was about six or seven years old and it was the best preparation for his First Holy Communion! But you can start this practice any time with your children, as a way to help them develop their own prayer time and grow in the spiritual life.
The card walks the child through some opening prayers of worship/adoration, petition, and thanksgiving, then through Scripture reading, resolution, and the Lord’s Prayer.
There are different templates for boys and girls if you want to print color versions, and you can also find a “white” card if you are interested in saving color ink or a “customizable” card if you or your child want to add your own opening/closing prayers or devotions.
The card is a great launch point for young children to learn to pray on their own…but it is only meant to be a guide! If your young ones eventually want to improvise, expand, or alter their prayer process…follow their/the Holy Spirit’s lead!
Cards are for individual/family use only. Please send others to the link to purchase additional copies if you want to recommend the card to others!
